Karalis is the name given to our city (now known as Cagliari, capital city of Sardegna, Italy) by Phoenician sailors approx. 3000 years ago. Here, time, light and wind flow freely without ever rushing: similarly, our coffee Karalis reflects the rhythm of these elements. It took over half a century of sampling and experience of roasting the coffee beans in the narrow streets at the heart of our city to achieve this. The rich aroma, sophisticated smooth taste of our coffee which can be savoured calmly without haste, truly reflects the essence of its name.

Karalis coffee is the newest addition to the fine varieties of coffee produced by La Tazza d'oro. It is a high quality coffee obtained by select roasting of the best green beans using highly technological procedures, which perfects the traditional system of coffee bean roasting, underlining its natural potential and thus limiting any occurrence of possible problems. This system conforms to quality standards certified UNI ISO 9001:2000 guaranteeing its clients a consistent level of characteristics of our coffees and targeting an ever improved quality. For some years Karalis Coffee – La Tazza d’oro has adopted a computerised process which monitors the roasting and blending of coffee beans; a technologically advanced process which, thanks to the supervision of the ‘master roaster’, allows a constant check over the most delicate steps of the process. This results in an individually roasted coffee blend with a delicate taste and an aroma full of Italian culture.

Caffe' Karalis is exported all over the world, and finally it has arrived in Australia. Karalis Imports is the Importer and Distributor for Australia. Karalis Imports is Australian owned and run by the Pusceddu Family, who migrated from Cagliari, Sardegna 30 years ago.

Karalis Coffee - La Tazza d'oro has been importing and retailing the finest quality coffee since 1938. In Sardinia (Sardegna), particularly in the post war period, the company played an important role in diffusing the taste and the trend of coffee drinking, in a period when the lack of local roasting facilities meant that prices soared and the drink became a luxury of only the most well-off. La Tazza d’oro –Karalis Coffee was founded by Giuseppe Murgia, and it is thanks to his passion and foresight, that this drink has become a common ritual in the homes of all families. Up until the 1970’s, people arriving in Cagliari from other towns in the region used to pay a visit to the roastery originally situated in the very central via Manno, or to one of the La Tazza d’oro outlets of ‘freshly ground’ coffee. In fact, coffee and sugar became the most popular gifts that visitors to Cagliari took back home for their friends and relatives. Flavour, technical skill and roasting expertise are all fundamental ingredients of this extraordinary drink. It is a wonderful feat of engineering, which combines the organoleptic components of the best blends to produce an unmistakable, unique taste.

Today modern technology plays an active role in the roasting process. However, unlike other areas of the food industry, it is ‘clean and healthy’ technology which merely guarantees that the product is genuine and that its high standard of quality remains constant. In fact, in spite of the potential that modern technology offers for a faster more economic production process, La Tazza d’oro - Karalis Coffee prefers to use a more traditional or semi-automatic roasting system. Each phase is carefully carried out under the watchful eye of the “master roaster” whose expertise and skill guarantees the quality of the product.

The result is a uniform blend of colour and a full, sweet flavour since all the beans are roasted to exactly the right temperature and the cooling process is operated manually. Air, as opposed to water, is used to cool the roasted beans so as to preserve their rich aroma.

La Tazza d’oro - Karalis Coffee has establishing itself as a producer of high quality espresso coffee, fully respecting the H.A.C.C.P standards. Furthermore, we are in the process of being awarded the certificate of quality based on the UNI/EN ISO 9000 requirements.

La Tazza d’oro - Karalis Coffee pays particular attention to the coffee destined for the use in Café’s and Restaurants. These blends have to be compatible with professional espresso machines, whilst maintaining the taste that traditional preparation guarantees for home consumption. For this reason various types of blends have been prepared and put on the market to cater for all palates.
